Meet Lola!

My labor with Lola is still kind of
surreal to me.
My active labor was extremely short,
but I was in early labor for a long time without
realizing it.

I was having irregular contractions for days.
They started out as just tightening,
but gradually got stronger.
Finally, on Sunday morning,
they were ranging from 3-8 minutes
and hurting pretty badly.
I knew they were supposed to be regular,
and they would be for an hour or more
at a time,
and then they would become irregular again.
We decided to go to the hospital on Sunday around 11am.
They checked me
and hooked me up to the monitor to watch
my contractions for an hour.
I was dilated to a 3, spotting,
but the contractions were still irregular,
ranging from 3-8 minutes,
so they sent us home.
I was extremely frustrated.
I figured if that wasn't labor, then I wouldn't know
what it felt like once it actually hit.
We came home and ate and then
decided to go walking.
We walked for an hour and my contractions stayed
3 minutes apart the whole time.
And then they started going up to ten minutes
at some points again.
We popped in a Stoffer's lasagna for dinner
and put on the TV and just decided to wait it out.
My contractions were getting more and more painful,
but still never regular.
I fell asleep around 11 and was able to get a little
sleep before the contractions woke me up at 2 something
in the morning.
I kept timing them.
Still ranging anywhere from 3 minutes to 10.
But they were so painful I had to get out of bed and walk
through them.
At 4, I finally woke up Luis.
He sat with me as I cried for a little bit,
more out of frustration that they wouldn't get regular
than pain, although the pain was bad!
My bleeding was getting worse, so around 5
I decided we needed to go back to the hospital.
We took Olivia next door and called my mom
so she could meet us there.
Once at the hospital, around 5:45,
they checked me again (a 4 now) and admitted me.
My contractions were still very irregular,
but getting more and more painful,
so much so I was moaning through them and had to curl up
on my side.
Around 7, maybe a little after,
my doctor came in to check me again (a 5)
and broke my water.
Contractions got even worse after that,
I was pretty zoned out.
At one point I heard the nurses say I was an 8.
That's when I realized I had no choice but
to go through with the natural birth I wanted.
Finally, I started to get the urge to push.
I remember telling the nurse,
"I feel like I need to push, but I don't want to be checked
again." Haha. I hated being on my back when they
were checking me.
(Why, oh why, aren't hospitals more open to
different birthing positions? Geez.)
I kept getting the urge to push,
so they finally convinced me to let them check me.
I was pretty much a 10,
but had a slight cervical lip.
They gave it a little more time,
checked me again, still had the lip,
so my doctor decided to push it back and for me to start pushing.

I should probably mention that Olivia was at the hospital with us
most of this time.
Erica dropped her off on her way to work at 7
and she slept on the couch in the hospital room
up until it was time for me push,
then my sister took her to the waiting room.
I don't think anyone expected my labor to go so quickly.

After 10 minutes of the most pain I've ever been through in my life,
Lola Violet Leija entered the world
at 9:06am on March 25th, 2013.
She didn't cry right away, just kind of gargled.
I remember asking, "is she ok?"
And Luis told me she was just being cleaned up.
She finally cried and I finally got to see her.
She was huge!
I was in shock watching her get weighed.
8 pounds 5 ounces and 20 3/4 inches long.
(Olivia was 6 lbs 8 oz and 19 in,
so Lola is a much bigger baby!)
One of the first things I said was,
"She looks so much like Olivia!"
She really does, a chunkier version.

Leija Littles

{ Olivia }

1. She's a big sister!
2. She pronounces Lola, "'Ola."
3. She got a new princess dress from her Mimi
today and does not want to take it off.
4. She already loves to sing to Lola.
She sings, "Baby, baby 'Ola. Baby, baby 'Ola."
5. She is obsessed with purses and always
has to have one with her with
some sort of toy in it at all times.

{ Lola }

1. She's here!!
Born yesterday at 39 weeks and 3 days.
2. She's a whopping 8 lbs 5oz.
Such a chubby little baby.
3. Lola looks exactly like a chubby Olivia as
a baby. I can't wait to see
how they'll end up being different.
4. She's having a tough time with latch
and she always seems to be hungry.
Not a good combo!
5. Her eyes are a light gray/blue.
Hoping that means they'll be colored!

March 19th

Four years ago, on March 19th,
I found out I was pregnant.
I was only 20 years old and took
my birth control every day like a good girl.
And yet I had a baby growing inside of me.
It's so crazy how as soon as you see
those two little lines your entire life changes,
how you instantly become a mother
and nothing else matters.

Olivia is by far the greatest thing to ever happen to me.
She forced Luis and I to stop playing silly
relationship games and to get serious.
She made us a family.
She's brought me so much joy and I can't
wait to double that joy with her little sister.

Olivia Rose, I'm so glad you're mine.

Leija Littles

{ Olivia }

1. She says "I love you" a million times a day.
I absolutely love this about her.
In the car or just randomly while running up to give us a hug.
Makes me so happy every time.
2. We went to the doctor last week and
she's currently 31.5 pounds.
3. Olivia is totally addicted to donut holes.
She got spoiled because Isaiah will usually bring
her some before school on the days I drop him off
and now she wants them pretty much every day.
4. She loves to fake burp.
5. I feel like she's throwing less tantrums lately.
But the ones she does throw. Oh. My. Gosh.
They're insane.

{ Lola }

1. I'm currently 38 weeks and 4 days.
2. Lola is taking her sweet time.
Not really, I know realistically she could go
up to 42 weeks,
but having Livi at 38 weeks kind of put in the back
of my mind that it would be then.
3. She cries wolf pretty much every night.
I have contractions
(not super close by any means)
but consistently for hours and then I go to bed
and nothing.
4. I've had less of an appetite lately.
I remember feeling that way with Olivia towards the end,
so hopefully it's a good sign.
5. We are just so excited to meet her.
I can't wait to smell her little newborn smell
and feel her soft fuzzy hair. Ahhh.

Zoo Day

I had been feeling a little guilty
for just sitting around all Spring Break
just waiting for Lola to make her appearance.
I knew Olivia needed to do something fun this week.
So Wednesday I asked Ash and the boys if they wanted
to go to the zoo the next day and luckily,
she was crazy enough to agree!
We braved the crowds together with 3 kids 4 years and under
and one super pregnant belly.
And the crowds were BAD
We literally had to walk 4 blocks or so before even
getting to the zoo.
Not so easy with just one stroller, since we were
planning on renting another once we got inside.
But it all worked out and the kids had so much fun
and the mamas were pooped. :)

Leija Littles

{ Olivia }

1. The other day, we were lying on the couch
watching TV and Lola was moving a lot.
Olivia saw her and yelled,
"Mom! Lola's coming out!"
2. She's become very attached to Luis lately.
Sometimes she'll even cry when he leaves for work
which is totally unlike her.
3. Since the time change,
she's been staying up really late, which stinks.
But she's also been sleeping in, which is awesome.
4. Her current favorite song
is Barbie Girl by Aqua.
5. Today, she's told me multiple times that
Lola is coming tomorrow.
I hope she's right!

{ Lola }

1. I'm currently 37 weeks and 4 days.
2. As of my appointment last Wednesday,
I'm dilated to a 1.
Hopefully more now!
3. I also found out at my last appointment that
I have a UTI that I had no idea about,
so I've been on antibiotics since.
4. After our shower on Saturday
and a shopping trip over the weekend,
I feel like she's officially set on clothes
til at least size 3-6 months.
5. If I have Lola when I had Olivia,
I would only have 3 days left!

Celebrating Lola

On Saturday, Maria threw us a small
diaper shower for little Lola.
It was exactly what we wanted,
not a big deal,
and just those closest to us in attendance.
Thank you to everyone that came!
